Measuring Pipettes
Graduated glass Measuring Pipettes are used to draw up, measure and dispense specific volumes of aqueous liquid. Class A Measuring Pipettes provide an accuracy of up to 0.5%.
Usage Guide
Measuring Pipettes are classified as follows:
- Type 1 pipettes are calibrated to deliver between two points with zero at the top. The liquid is drawn up to the zero mark and the liquid allowed to run out until the desired volume has been delivered. The pipette is not emptied completely.
- Type 2 pipettes are calibrated to deliver fully the measured volume, with total capacity marked at the top. The desired volume is drawn up then allowed to run out completely, with the operator waiting a further 3 seconds to ensure that all liquid has drained out. This is the most popular type.
- Type 3 pipettes are calibrated for total delivery like Type 2, but graduated with zero at the top and for total capacity at the tip.
- Type 3F are graduated the same as Type 3, but with a faster flow rate.
- Type 4 pipettes are calibrated to deliver fully, with zero at the top to total capacity at the jet tip. The last drop must be expelled by blowing rather than being allowed to drain.
